Next, you need to be aware of the appearance of butyric acid. This acid can cause a foul smell with slow fermentation. This can cause forage energy levels to decrease. However, you also can’t get rid of butyric acid completely for the sake of balance.
Therefore, you must immediately wrap cut plants using silage film. Cows often do not want to consume silage because of the distinctive butyric acid aroma. Make sure you don’t feed silage with a high butyric acid content.
Sometimes the feed also smells like vinegar, unpleasant, and tedious. This is the aroma of acetic acid which can inhibit the growth of fungus. The presence of acetic acid is good enough to create balance and stability in the silage. Meanwhile, you must still wrap the silage in a condition without oxidation, or liquid and with a strong silage film. Loose wrapping with too wet silage content will make your fermentation fail.
Grass Silage
Grass which is abundant around the farm can be the material for making silage. You can cut the grass and collect it approximately one week before wrapping. Grass is a plant that grows in lots of crops.
Plants that are usually in large quantities will have under quality with low nutritional value. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the process of wilting grass as dry material for bale silage at least 36 hours before wrapping.
You can process the accelerated wilting of grass by using a lawn mower. The pores of the grass leaves will also remain open after you have cut them for two hours. At that time you must immediately spread the plants to make silage.
